By mid-2008, the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation (SPSF) realized that the formation of a non-profit would be beneficial for several reasons. We put on the Shop With A Hero program each year where we raise private funds from our donors. We needed a way to hold and account for those funds. But, there was an even bigger reason, a stronger connection to our citizens. We realized that the only time citizens or business leaders had contact with the SFD or SPD was during an emergency. We knew that we had more to offer, but we lacked a pathway. After reaching out to a select number of community leaders and asking them to be involved, the SPSF was officially formed in 2008 . We received the 501(c)(3) in 2009.
Since our inception, we have grown considerably as a foundation. Our volunteer Board of Directors consists of 11 business executives who are active voting members with 4 Advisory Board Members and an Executive Director. Their love for the City of Smyrna and its public safety personnel is the driving force to support the growth of SPSF and achieve our mission to encourage and strengthen the partnerships between the residents of Smyrna and it’s Public Safety Personnel. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for those who live, work, and play in the City of Smyrna and the surrounding communities.
The SPSF has proven to be invaluable for public safety here in Smyrna. It puts us in front of, and connected to, our citizens and business leaders in a way that allows us all to get to know and better understand each other’s needs.
