Kickball and Cars: Smyrna Public Safety Foundation’s Battle of the Badges Returns Sept. 20

The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation will host a free day of fun and friendly competition to support local first responders.

The non-profit will host its annual Battle of the Badges event on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Smyrna First Baptist Church in downtown Smyrna, and this year’s event will feature a fresh twist.

Instead of a softball showdown, the Smyrna Fire Department and the Smyrna Police Department will face off in a kickball game.

The popular Hotrods & Heroes Car Show also returns on Sept. 20, showcasing classic and custom vehicles from across the region. Car enthusiasts can enjoy the display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Car registration will begin in July, with an early registration fee of $25 and a registration fee of $30 on the day of the event. Registration will be available at http://e.givesmart.com/events/Jot.

“Our first responders are the heart of this community,” said Denise Czarnik, executive director of the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation. “Battle of the Badges is a fun way to celebrate our heroes’ service while bringing people together for a good cause.”

The event will also feature food vendors and a variety of family-friendly activities. Kids can enjoy a “Touch a Truck” with the chance to explore different types of trucks up close, including first responder vehicles.

All proceeds from the event support SPSF’s mission to help Smyrna’s first responders and strengthen community partnerships.

Sponsorships will be available.

During last year’s Battle of the Badges softball game, the Smyrna Fire Department claimed victory over the Smyrna Police Department. A 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme won the Best of Show honor, while a 1977 Ford Bronco picked up the Chiefs Award, and a 1983 DeLorean claimed the Kids Choice award.

Upcoming SPSF events include Jazz Under the Gazebo in November and Shop with a Hero in December. For more information, including registration for the car show and vendor opportunities, please visit smyrnapsf.org.
