{"id":440,"date":"2024-09-05T13:15:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T17:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smyrnapsf.org\/?p=440"},"modified":"2025-05-29T09:05:31","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T13:05:31","slug":"family-fun-day-to-support-smyrnas-first-responders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/smyrnapsf.org\/index.php\/2024\/09\/05\/family-fun-day-to-support-smyrnas-first-responders\/","title":{"rendered":"Family fun day to support Smyrna\u2019s first responders"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0Smyrna Public Safety Foundation will host a car show and a softball game as part\u00a0of\u00a0a free, family-friendly community event to support Smyrna\u2019s first responders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;foundation will hold&nbsp;the&nbsp;Hotrods &amp; Heroes Car Show and&nbsp;the&nbsp;Battle&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Badges&nbsp;Softball Game from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Smyrna First Baptist Church, located at 1275 Church Street in Smyrna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur first responders give so much&nbsp;of&nbsp;themselves to keep&nbsp;the&nbsp;community safe and make it&nbsp;the&nbsp;incredible place that it is,\u201d Denise Czarnik, executive director&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Smyrna Public Safety Foundation, said. \u201cThis event is&nbsp;the&nbsp;perfect way to celebrate&nbsp;these community heroes while having fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In&nbsp;the&nbsp;Battle&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Badges&nbsp;softball game,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Smyrna Fire Department and&nbsp;the&nbsp;Smyrna Police Department will face&nbsp;off for&nbsp;the&nbsp;2nd Annual Chiefs Award. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;Smyrna Fire Department is looking to win back-to-back games after defeating&nbsp;the&nbsp;Smyrna Police Department in 2023 during a game where first responders were having so much fun that&nbsp;they decided to play extra innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During&nbsp;the&nbsp;Battle&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Badges,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Smyrna Public Safety Foundation will be accepting donations for its benevolence fund. It will also&nbsp;offer raffles and opportunities for anyone who wants to donate directly to support a Smyrna Fire Department lieutenant and 20-year veteran&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;force who has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;Hotrods &amp; Heroes Car Show will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.&nbsp;The&nbsp;Southern Wheels Unlimited Car Club will help with&nbsp;the&nbsp;event and select&nbsp;the&nbsp;top 15 awards, which will be presented starting at 2 p.m. A $20 registration fee directly supports Smyrna first responders, and discounts are&nbsp;offered for multiple car entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications are now open for anyone who wants to show&nbsp;off&nbsp;their wheels. To register, visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/spsfcar.givesmart.com\/\">SPSFcar.givesmart.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;event will also feature a Touch a Truck event, where kids can explore different types&nbsp;of&nbsp;trucks up close, including a fire truck, a swat truck and a Barrow wrecker tow truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;event will include various vendors, and food from Hotrods Popcorn,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Mighty Millie Foundation and others will be available for purchase.
